The show –Thursday 16 th . May 2019

Only 3 meetings to go!

hang. See Chris or Barbara with any queries.
We hope to have a stunning display of row quilts, don’t forget to put them on the form and make a note it’s a
row quilt.
If you made a hanging with Gail Lawther make sure you include her name in your notes so we can hang
them all together.
You can also enter smaller items e.g. cushions, mats, runners.
The show is your chance to showcase your work so we would love everyone
try to find something to show.

Forms should be returned this month

Members of the show committee are busy with preparations and will be asking for help and donations
during the coming meetings. Our charities this show are the Ark Cancer Centre in Basingstoke and the
British Lung Foundation, so please do all you can to help make the show as successful as ever.
Thank you to everyone who made friendship star blocks for the show raffle quilt. Agna is busy
putting them together, they will look stunning.
Tombola – would like some larger prizes, e.g. table runners, small quilts, bags and soft toys to draw the
crowds. If you can make any of these, or similar, please bring your items along for the tombola team, led by

As usual we had a great Christmas meeting, food, fun and friends – what more could you ask! We all
enjoyed opening our secret santas and will look forward to using them.
Sue finished the jigsaw and posted a picture on Facebook – well done.
Now we start work in earnest preparing for our show in May, it may seem a long way away but there are
only 4 meetings before the big day!

The show –Thursday 16 th . May 2019

Many of you took fabric to make friendship star blocks for the show raffle quilt. We had a good
display of blocks last month. If you have made one (or more!) please bring them along to the meeting. Agna
has started putting together the border – there was a picture on Facebook.
Registration of quilts or other items for the show – a form is attached.
Please be accurate with your measurements – inches NOT centimetres – and note the largest size we can

December 2018 Newsletter           Meeting Thursday 20th. December

It’s Christmas!

Christmas meeting

This is our Christmas celebration.

When you arrive please put your secret Santa (a covered notebook - wrapped,) into Santa’s bag; they will be given out later in the afternoon. We will open our secret Santas for everyone to see the amazing ideas members have – it doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.

The raffle – everyone will be given a free raffle ticket during the meeting but we do not need raffle prizes this year, we will provide them.

Finally – and perhaps most importantly – a small plate of Christmas food would be much appreciated. There will be no charge for refreshments this month.

Lunch will be at 12.30, so no one need bring a separate lunch, we are sure there will be plenty left for those who come later – the tables are usually groaning!

Don't worry if you can't bring/forget any of the above, it’s you we want to see at our Christmas meeting, so be sure to come along and we can help you out.

We will have a few fun (we hope) activities for you to join in with – if you want to……

We shall round off our day with a Christmas Show and Tell, anything you have made on a Christmas theme.

The show –Thursday 16th. May 2019

Last month many of you took fabric to make friendship star blocks for the show raffle quilt. If you have made one (or more!) please bring them along and pin them up on the stands. Agna will have more fabric this month if you want to join in and make a block.

Registration of quilts or other items for the show – a form is attached.

Please be accurate with your measurements – inches NOT centimetres – and note the largest size we can hang. See Chris or Barbara with any queries.

We hope to have a stunning display of row quilts, don’t forget to put them on the form and make a note it’s a row quilt.

Forms should be returned in January, if possible, February at the latest.

Name badges

We have quite a few new members and it does help everyone if you can all wear a name badge. It doesn’t have to be complicated, just your name on a piece of fabric with a safety pin on the back. Chequered Dresden Plate

Last month Dot introduced the chequered Dresden plate, she will demonstrate assembling it this month.

It looks fun and hopefully lots of you will try it.

To prepare you need to sew together 4 x 2½” strips. If you are using 20 different strips each strip needs to be about 13” long. You will need 5 sets of 4 strips to make the plate.

Bring your joined strips along and you can use our rulers to cut your pieces of the plate.

Dot will show you how to finish the plate

Thank you very much to those members who have volunteered for the show committee, we would like some more volunteers – many hands make light work. Please think about it, it is only for 6 months and our show is very worthwhile. We will have a preliminary meeting this month just to introduce members and ask for ideas for all aspects of the show – tombola, raffle, café, layout etc. Don’t worry if you can’t make this meeting – there will be more! If you won’t be here for the show, but would be willing to help in the preparation come along and see how you can help.

Row Quilt This month will be a ‘catch up’ month and in June we will give you some ideas as to what to do next – if you want to add sashing.

Bring along any completed rows, we hope to have some joined rows so that you can see how the quilt is coming together.

We have Bondaweb for sale at the meeting (£1 for 12”)  and freezer paper– see a member of the committee.

Thank you to everyone for filling in their Data Protection forms.

Gail Lawther workshop on Thursday 12th. July will be on Twilight silhouettes. The cost of the workshop will be £25, payable this month. We still have some places so if you would like to take part please sign up at the meeting and bring your money.
