  Meeting Thursday 19th, October

At our AGM last month we revealed our plans for the coming year, including our new quilt challenge. This will be a row quilt and we hope as many of you as possible will join in.

Each month we will be demonstrating techniques to make five 8” blocks, or 4” blocks if you prefer a smaller quilt. We will give you lots of ideas and you can adapt them to suit your needs. If you don’t want to make a quilt you could use the ideas to make placemats, table runners, bags – make one block or 5, the choice is yours.

The committee will be using the theme ‘Out and About’, but you could use your own theme or no theme, just make the blocks. We will introduce 2 rows before Christmas and 4 rows after Christmas. Later in the year (2018) you can add sashing and borders, if you want to. We hope you will enjoy this challenge and maybe use a new technique or one that you had forgotten.

You may want to use the ‘quilt as you go’ method to make your quilt. If so – or if you don’t know what this method involves – Pat will be demonstrating during this month’s meeting.

For the AGM we borrowed a PA system from the W.I. to see if it helped with the audio problems in the hall. It proved a success and was appreciated by everyone. You will be pleased to know that we are investing in our own system, so hopefully a better sound will be heard by all in future.

Most subscriptions are now in for the coming year. If, for whatever reason, you will not be renewing your membership please let us know so that we can offer your place to some else. We do need 60 paid up members just to cover the cost of the hall rental, which is being raised.

This year we are going to take part in the Christmas tree festival in Sherfield church. Our theme is Starlight Express. A small team has formed to organise our entry and this month we will be looking for help from all members to make stars to decorate the tree. We have templates, fabric and thread. It would be easy to make a star during the meeting so please help make our exhibit a success.

If anyone has an artificial Christmas tree, between 3 and 4 foot tall, which they would be willing to lend us for our window please see Brenda or Barbara.

For those who want to get ahead - this year’s Secret Santa is a needle case. Details of our Xmas meeting next month.
