April 2018

Meeting Thursday 19 th .April 2018
As we explained last month we need volunteers to join the show committee if we are to have a show in May
2019. Thank you very much to those members who have volunteered, ideally we would like some more
volunteers – many hands make light work. Please think about it, it is only for 6 months and our show is very
worthwhile.
This month our Row Quilt technique will be curved piecing. It is the last ‘row’. There will be
demonstrations if these are new techniques for you – or you need a reminder or inspiration.
Our committee theme is Out and About and this month is ‘the sea.’ Remember that you can adapt what we
suggest or follow your own theme, it is a very flexible challenge. Blocks can be 8” or 4”, or you can work
on a strip.
Next month will be a ‘catch up’ month and in June we will give you some ideas as to what to do next – if
you want to add sashing.
We have Bondaweb for sale at the meeting (£1 for 12”) – see a member of the committee.
The Data Protection Rules regarding your personal data are changing in May and, unless we
have your specific consent to contact you, we will not be allowed to send you anything.
If you have not filled in a form please do so at the meeting this month. Thank you to all those members who
have returned their forms.
Gail Lawther workshop on Thursday 12 th . July will be on Twilight silhouettes. Details are on the
notice board. You do not need a ‘fancy’ machine’ to take part, a walking foot is useful but Gail has ways
round if you don’t have one. The cost of the workshop will be £25, payable in May. We still have some
places so if you would like to take part please sign up at the meeting.
The Scrappy box – thank you for all the donations to the scrappy box, lots of members make use of it.
PLEASE make sure that any fabric you put in the box has NO PINS or needles in it, members do
‘rummage’ and points can be dangerous!
The Jane Austen community quilt is on permanent show at Jane Austen House Museum in
Chawton and includes the beautiful block made by Dusty. It is well worth a visit and also includes a coverlet
made by Jane, her sister and her mother. Full details www.jane-austens- house-museum.org.uk
