May 2011 Newsletter

We had a good meeting in April, despite being so close to the Easter break, and we celebrated the
success of the show by finishing the delicious cakes donated by all our good cook quilters.
We have a couple of cake tins and a green glass plate belonging to some cake makers, they will
be at the next meeting.
We are donating £500 to each of our charities, an amazing effort. All the comments we had were
so positive and now everyone is inspired to start again for the next show.!

Pris bought over the Angel Quilt which her husband won in the raffle. He was delighted to win
it and has decided to donate it to Project Linus for a deserving teenager, how heart warming to
know that it will have a good home with someone who needs it. Thank you to all who contributed
towards the quilt and to John for ensuring it is going to be what all quilts are – something special
to someone special.

When it came to Show and Tell no one had anything to show – we wonder why?! We did see
some work in progress from some members. There is a lot of enthusiasm to start new projects, so
we are busy planning to start several things in September.

This month we are thinking about appliqué, which covers many techniques, so if you have some
appliqué work please bring it along to the meeting so that we can have an appliqué show and tell.
Pris demonstrated one method and if you have made some 'petals' bring them along for the next
stage. Barbara will demonstrate Bondaweb applique.
Why not try out some techniques and make e.g.a needle case or book cover - you can donate it to
the tombola collection (its never too soon to start, we ran out of tombola items by midday at the
show)

Trader

Becky Hay will be the trader at our May meeting. Some of you will have met her at the show or
other trading events. She stocks Moda fabrics (a quilting favourite) and will bring fat quarters,
bolts of fabric and jelly rolls.
She will have some special offers, so bring your purses and cheque books!
