Newsletter Meeting Thursday 21st. November We had almost a full house in October, including some new members, whom we hope enjoyed the meeting. Please try and remember to wear your name badges, it is a useful memory jogger! The library got off to a good start last month with lots of books signed out. Please remember to sign them back in when you return them this month. Books can be returned any time during the meeting but please wait until 2 o'clock to sign them out so that everyone has a chance to browse. Thanks to Jenny Hornsey who demonstrated how to make a reversible block. Lots of members were working on their blocks during the meeting, if you have finished your block/mat do bring it along for Show and Tell. If you don’t want your blocks please donate them and we will use them for a charity quilt. 'Loddon' quilt. We unveiled the different techniques and irregular blocks that will make up our next quilt. We shall be following a theme of 'Gardens', but if you want to have a different theme or an additional (!) theme we will give you as much help as possible, just let us know what your theme is. In December we will show you our first block, based on log cabin, and in January we will demonstrate it. Our Christmas secret Santa this year is a postcard. For those of you who are new to postcards, or want some inspiration, Anne Brock will be demonstrating this month. Check out these websites for ideas, or Google 'patchwork quilted postcards', there are so many ideas. http://irishpatchwork.blogspot.co.uk/2010/12/how-to-make-fabric-postcards.html http://craftapple.wordpress.com/2006/08/23/quilted-cards-tutorial/ http://calidore.wordpress.com/2007/02/14/postcard-tutorial/ http://www.patchworkposse.com/2009/08/lets-talkfabric-postcard-tutorial/ We shall be having fabric, notions and goodies for sale from Lady Sew and Sew, this month, so bring your purses and cheque books! In Staples they have Pilot Frixion pens for sale. They are good for marking fabric and the marks disappear when heated/ironed. Calendars There are a few of the super Loddon Show calendars for 2014 left if you missed them last month and would like one. They cost £5 and will be on sale from Joan. Thanks to Joan for producing the calendar using the photos taken at the Show in April. Our December meeting – 19th. December is our Christmas celebration. For our new members our Christmas meeting is fun! We ask you to bring a secret Santa and a small raffle prize, but no Christmas cards this year. The secret Santas (this year it is a postcard) go in a box and are given out in the afternoon. Everyone is given a raffle ticket and we draw the tickets until all the prizes have been won. Please bring a small plate of food to share. Lunch will be taken to 12.30, so no one need bring a separate lunch or starve while waiting for 'tea' and we are sure there will be plenty left for those who come later – the tables are usually groaning! We will remind you of what to bring in the newsletter next month. Dates for your diaries: Farnham Maltings Quilters’ Exhibition and Fabric Sale 12th Farnham Maltings, Farnham.
